J. Craig Strafford, MD is a practicing physician who provides reproductive health care to underserved women and their partners. For over fifty years he has maintained an active role in state and national professional associations addressing issues on cost, quality and access to medical care. Craig spent several years treating individuals with the disease of addiction, many of whom were involved in the criminal justice system. Dr Strafford serves as the medical director for two county health departments in Ohio.
Craig and his wife Rebecca Terrell Strafford, MD live on a century farm near New Vienna, Ohio in the house where Becky and all her sisters were born. Their seven-hundred-acre farm produces corn, soybeans and solar power. They keep a flock of sheep for fleece and sleep under duvets made from their wool.
Married in a traditional Quaker ceremony in 1969 at Fairview, a monthly meeting within the Wilmington Yearly Meeting, Craig and Becky have been active participants in the local Quaker community. Craig serves as Clerk of the Training and Recording Committee for the Wilmington Yealy Meeting.
As a former Eagle Scout, Craig always tries to be prepared and do the right thing. He believes that individuals ought to have access to education and training commensurate with their abilities and to healthcare for themselves and their families.
Craig is committed to the philosophy of servant leadership.
Dr Strafford has written many articles and given numerous presentations on clinical conditions encountered in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology as well as published commentaries on the practice of medicine and the delivery of healthcare.
