Credit for Life Experience

Students come to Wilmington College Cincinnati Branch with a great deal of life experience. We value these experiences and accomplishments and will work with you to translate these experiences into academic credit. The following are ways that students may earn credits for their prior learning experiences at Wilmington College:

CLEP Examinations:
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers standardized college level general and subject exams.  Academic credit for exams is awarded for minimum acceptable scores established by the American Council of Education.

Wilmington College is a CLEP testing site exclusively for currently enrolled students.

Proficiency Examinations:
Wilmington College offers proficiency examinations for some of our courses not covered by CLEP exams.  We award credit for acceptable performance as defined by the appropriate academic department.

Experiential Learning Portfolio
Wilmington College recognizes that not all college-level learning takes place in the classroom.  In additional to our liberal transfer credit policy from other accredited institutions, we also provide the opportunity to earn college credit as appropriate for prior learning experiences, including on the job and volunteer experiences.

For further details, feel free to access the Experiential Learning Handbook.

Professional Development/Military Experience
The National Program on Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction and the American Council on Education evaluate and make credit recommendations for education programs, seminars and courses, and military training. Wilmington College recognizes the value of these prior learning experiences by following the guidelines of these organizations to award academic credit. Your Personal Graduation Coach will work closely with you to be sure that you receive all the credit to which you are entitled.
