Financing Your Education

How to Apply

How to Apply
Students can apply for financial aid funds beginning January 1. In addition, there are federal, state, and institutional deadlines that must be met. All financial aid funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have questions or need additional information, forms, or help completing the financial aid forms, please contact the Student One Stop Center at 937.382.6661, x600.

STEP 1: Complete an application for admission to Wilmington College.
Financial aid cannot be awarded until you are admitted to the college as a degree-seeking student.

STEP 2: Obtain a Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID).
The FSA ID serves as an electronic signature. Anyone (student, spouse, parent, etc.) who will be providing information on the FAFSA is considered a contributor and each contributor will each need their own FSA ID.

STEP 3: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1.
The FAFSA form determines eligibility for federal and state aid beginning with the summer semester of the academic year for which you are applying for financial aid. The FAFSA form will ask for information contained on your 2022 federal income tax return. The FAFSA may be completed electronically on the U. S. Department of Education’s website studentaid.gov.
Be sure to release your FAFSA application to Wilmington College by listing our School Code 003142.

STEP 4: Review your FAFSA Submission Summary.
After your FAFSA has been submitted and processed, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access an online copy of your FAFSA Submission Summary. Check the summary for accuracy. If it is error free, retain the FAFSA Submission Summary for your records. If you detect an error, contact the Student One Stop Center to determine if the changes are necessary and whether the changes can be updated electronically. Please read this form carefully. The U. S. Department of Education selects a percentage of each institution’s aid applicants for a process called verification. If you are selected, you will be informed via your FAFSA Submission Summary. In addition, Wilmington College will send a notification to your WC email account informing you of the documents that you are required to complete in order to verify the data reflected on your FAFSA application.

STEP 5: Review your Financial Aid Offer.
After you have been accepted for admission to the College and after you have completed the verification process (if selected), Wilmington College will send a notification to your WC email account when your Financial Aid Offer is available to view. Be sure to read the Financial Aid & Student Account/Billing Guide as it provides valuable information about the aid that you have been awarded and the conditions that you must meet to retain your financial aid funds. The awarding process starts in mid-April and continues throughout the academic year.

STEP 6: Complete Required Documents and Tasks.
The financial aid offer notification will direct you to your Financial Aid Student Self-Service Portal. The Financial Aid Portal is where you will indicate your acceptance or declination of each aid fund as well as complete any needed documents or tasks to secure the financial aid funds listed on your financial aid offer.
We highly recommend that you complete all tasks within two weeks of receipt of the email notification to ensure funds appear on Billing Statements.
