Wilmington College’s realignment of its senior leadership structure features J. Wynn Alexander adding provost to his title of vice president for academic affairs. President Corey Cockerill said his new duties began on May 1.
She said the recent departure of Chief of Staff John McKiernan, who became executive vice president and chief operating officer at Holy Cross College, provided an opportune time to redefine several leadership roles. Cockerill noted the change will “bring more clarity and coordination to our work” and strengthen the academic affairs area by more closely connecting the College’s academic and operational endeavors. Alexander served on the theatre faculty from 1986 through 2023, when he joined the administration as vice president for academic affairs.
“Wynn has been a steady and thoughtful leader in academic affairs, with a clear focus on student success, program strength and faculty support,” she said. “As provost, he will lead our academic enterprise and help guide our shared work in shaping our academic direction.”
As part of this transition, Angela Mitchell, associate vice president for academic affairs, will assume the role of dean of faculty, in which she will work closely with area coordinators, faculty conveners and academic programs to lead faculty support and development and advance key priorities within academic affairs.
