Opportunity to Direct Gives Students Hands-On Learning Experience
Wilmington College Theatre will present three evenings of student-directed, one-act plays April 16, 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.
The One Act Play Festival is free of charge and will feature a trio of single act plays each night in a festival seating format.
The event is designed to provide students with a hands-on learning experience in all aspects of dramas produced for a public audience: direction, acting and technical production.
Licensing arrangements prohibit publicly announcing the names of the productions and their playwrights.
The first play, which is set in 1950s Georgia, is directed by Karen Oehler and features actors Emily Knisley and Callie Eberhart. It is about navigating relationships.
Second on the bill is play set at a punk rock club in New York that may contains language and subject matter not appropriate for all audiences. A.J. Ganger is directing with Brandin Johnson and Dillion Davidson holding the acting roles.
Vicki Wilson is directing the final one-act, which features Tim Wiederhold, Nick Hutson, A.P. Haag, Amanda Brock and Genesis Rocks.
Faculty advisers for the productions are theatre faculty members Wynn Alexander, Lois A. Hock and Becky Haines. Gary Smith is handling sound coordination with Mason Dickerson operating the light board and George Spelvin the sound. Deck managers are 2014 graduate Bekah Muchmore and Emory Townsend.
