WC Theatre Opens Auditions for ‘Nunsense’ to the Public

Nunsense, the Mega Musical Proves That 'Nun' Rhymes with 'Fun' Persons high school age and older can audition for Wilmington College’s fall theatre production of Nunsense, the Mega Musical. Open auditions are set for Sunday and Monday (Sept. 27 and 28), at 7 p.m., in WC’s Hugh G. Heiland Theatre. Director J. Wynn Alexander said no advance preparation is necessary and all music and movement used for the audition will be taught during the sessions. Those auditioning are encouraged to attend all sessions and stay for the duration to allow for full participation. He added that the show requires an ensemble cast of male and female singers and actors portraying nuns and priests. Rehearsals will begin soon for Nunsense, the Mega Musical, which will be presented Nov. 19, 20 and 21. Alexander called this fall’s production a “10-20-30 celebration,” as it observes the 10th anniversary of the Boyd Cultural Arts Center’s opening with the renovated Heiland Theatre, the 20th Theatre Department production since 2005 and the 30th anniversary of the premiere of Nunsense, the Mega Musical. Winner of the Outer Critics’ Circle awards for best off-Broadway musical, Nunsense is a “hilarious talent show” staged by survivors of the Little Sisters of Hoboken nunnery. The show has been described as a “cornucopia of hilarity for the whole family — proving conclusively that ‘nun’ rhymes with ‘fun.’” Additional information is available by contacting Alexander at (937) 481-2472 or via email at wynn_alexander@wilmington.edu.
