WC Students Gearing Up for Make a Difference Day

National Day of Service to Focus on Two Local Park Projects Wilmington College students will be among more than a million volunteers nationwide that will literally make a difference in their communities Saturday (Oct. 24), from 9 a.m. to noon, on National Make a Difference Day. (PICTURED) Wilmington College students are featured at a recent service day at the David Williams Memorial Park Dog Park coordinated by WC sophomore Travis Scheadler. Teams from WC plan to collaborate with students from Southern State Community College and Wilmington High School on a pair of projects under the supervision of Lori Kersey Williams, Wilmington’s director of parks and recreation. First, they will be working with a local master gardener on finishing landscaping work at the new Xidas Park at the corner of S. South and Sugartree streets. Also, they will assemble some of the equipment being installed at the park. The second project is at Stuckey Farm Park on Routes 22/3, where students in WC’s WISE program will continue their work with Williams in laying out a “playscape” design. WHS students will assemble picnic tables at the park. Following their service, workers will meet for lunch and reflection at the Escape’s new patio, which is adjacent to Xidas Park. Others outside the College wishing to assist with the service projects can contact Williams at 382-4781 for more information. Volunteers can register here.
