Alumni and friends of Wilmington College will converge on campus Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, for the annual collegiate tradition of Homecoming. This year’s autumn ritual also brings together Family Day and Alumni Reunion Weekend as part of Homecoming activities under the theme, “Take Me Home, Quaker Roads.”
WC Athletics will be well represented with several home contests throughout the weekend. The volleyball team plays Geneva on Friday at 6:30 p.m.; women’s and men’s soccer take on Anderson and Mount St. Joseph, respectively, on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.; and the football team plays Otterbein Saturday night under the lights, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Fans are invited to join the storied WC spirit organization, Gang Green, which will make appearances at the sporting events.
Students are starting festivities early on Friday with a Slip ‘n’ Slide Volleyball Tournament at the sand volleyball court near Marble Hall from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a pep rally at 9 p.m. in that general location. Also, on Friday, the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame will gain new members at an induction ceremony. Inductees include Carl Amerine, class of 2007, wrestling; David Hawk ’16, swimming; Malcolm Heard II ‘14, basketball; Marque Jones, Sr. ’77, football and a long-time assistant coach; Danielle Monnier ’14, softball; and Roger Reveal ’64, basketball.
Special alumni reunions are planned throughout the weekend, including the Aggies, Greek organizations, the softball, lacrosse and swim teams, young alumni and the Classes of 1986, 1996, 2006 and 2016. Also, members of the 1985 and ’86 NAIA National Tournament qualifying women’s soccer teams will be recognized at the women’s soccer match. Those teams placed fourth and fifth in the nation in 1985 and ’86.
Saturday morning starts with the Alumni Awards Brunch, where four alumni will be honored for career accomplishments and voluntary service. They include Kameron Rinehart ’20, Young Alumni Award; Tara Durbin ’01, Alumni Citation for Distinguished Professional Achievement; James Mandle ’72, Alumni Citation for Distinguished Contributions to Education; and Alan Frankel ’65, the John Frazier Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service
High noon opens the tailgating lots and signals staffing at the Alumni Tent, and opens the Bookstore Pop-Up Shop, Food Truck Alley (12 trucks!), Aggieville and family-friendly activities on Collett Mall near Elm Street. Also, Watson Library, the Peace Resource Center, Meriam R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center and Buren Center for Business will be open for most or all of the afternoon. The College’s Greek Life area will hold a bake sale with proceeds to be donated to Noah’s Little Lions charity.
A Homecoming tradition, the Greek Bed Races will commence at 3:30 p.m. on Elm Street. Also, alumni, friends and parents will have an opportunity to speak with President Corey Cockerill at a “Coffee with Corey” at 5:30 p.m. at the Buren Center.
Finally, Homecoming revelers will direct their attention to the football field, during which the Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be introduced and the Homecoming king, queen and court will be revealed at halftime.
