Andrew Wood’s practice spans disparate media, shifting from physical to file, performance to film. He produces drawings, text and moving images that draw from collaged observation and autobiography. Wilmington College’s Harcum Art Gallery will present an exhibit of his work, titled Final Form(?), from Sept. 3 through Oct. 9.
An opening reception honoring the artist is planned on Sept. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Normal gallery hours are weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and through special appointments arranged through Curator Hal Shunk, emeritus professor of art. Harcum Art Gallery is located in the Boyd Center for Cultural Arts on WC’s campus.
Wood is an assistant professor on the College’s art faculty. He noted that Final Form(?) is a collage, fantasy and psycho-geographic labyrinth that examines the British New Town of Peterlee. The artwork combines oral history, architectural research and curatorial experimentation into a now ubiquitous media form - the video game. The installation and digital game feature computers, projectors, sound, wood, foam, prints, paint and zines. He said exhibit visitors can read and take with them a zine from the gallery.
Born in Sunderland, United Kingdom, Wood’s work has screened at Onion City Experimental Film + Video Festival (Chicago, IL), Antimatter [Media Art] (Victoria, Canada), Light Matter Film Festival (Alfred, NY) and has been exhibited at SPAM New Media Festival (Seattle, WA). Wood holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio State University.
