Registration Deadline is April 7 at 5 p.m.
Local bakers and want-to-be pastry chefs have an opportunity to put their best cookies forward in the Wilmington College Cookie Bake-Off being held as part of the Sixth Food Symposium Wednesday (April 8).
Prizes will be awarded in both campus and community divisions of the competition, which comes on the heels of popular pie and cake-baking contests held at the previous two Food Symposiums.
(ABOVE) Students enjoy taste-testing cakes entered in last year's competition at the Food Symposium. This year, milk will be served with the cookies.
This year’s symposium is using the theme “Waste Is a Terrible Thing to Waste” and will highlight the startling fact that much of the food produced worldwide is wasted.
Food Symposium activities start Tuesday (April 7) with the exclusive, pre-release showing of the film Just Eat It, A Food Waste Story, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.
Wednesday’s schedule includes the Food Waste Fair, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Hermann Court; Cookie Bake-off and public tasting in Kelly Center, from 1 to 2 p.m.; and a panel discussion in Kelly Center, from 2 to 3 p.m. on the topic, “Food Waste Prevention: Opportunities and Threats.”
Details on how to register for the Cookie Bake-Off can be found here. Registration deadline is Tuesday at 5 p.m.
All events are free of charge.
