While the federal Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday is Jan. 19, Wilmington College is holding a week of activities featuring, on Jan. 22, the annual community MLK Day program at 7 p.m. in Heiland Theatre. The community is encouraged to attend.
WC’s Office of Mission, Values and Purpose selected “A Vision Beyond the Dream” as this year’s theme recognizing the life and legacy of the martyred American Civil Rights leader.
The Thursday evening program will include an array of Wilmington College community members sharing their reflections and talents in honor of King. Reflections will be offered by Chad McKay, associate professor, area coordinator for agriculture and Endowed Chair of Agribusiness and Leadership; Eric McLaughlin, associate. vice president for External Relations & Workforce Development; and Senior De’Anta “Slim” Sanon. Musical selections will be provided by Christopher Smith, visiting professor of music, and recording artist Tronee Threat of Yellow Springs. The program will also feature a presentation by Ron Jones of the American Dialogue Theater and the awarding of the Nedra Gordon Scholarship.
