College to Celebrate Homecoming Sept. 17

Annual Tradition Features Reunions, Sports, Pageantry and Late Summer Fun Wilmington College will observe the time-honored ritual of Homecoming on Saturday (Sept. 17) with a full day of activities designed for the entire family. This year, WC is combining Homecoming with Family Day and Alumni Reunion Weekend. PICTURED: Food Truck Alley will be in full display from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Elm St. outside Williams Stadium. The community is invited to join students, alumni, faculty and staff in activities surrounding the Homecoming football game. Starting at 10 a.m., Collett Mall will feature inflatable attractions, games and other family-friendly activities through 2 p.m. while food trucks will line Elm Street through 3 p.m. The Greek Bed Races always offer a Homecoming highlight and a few laughs as wobbly wheels and whipping cream pies in the face are standard fare. These will be held at 11 a.m. at Withrow Circle at the corner of Douglas and College streets. Those wishing to learn about WC's "Emerald Splendor," Hazard Arboretum, can tour through the trees with Curator Brad Schwamberger from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meet at the arboretum gate at Elm and Linton streets by 10:30 a.m. Kickoff for the Fightin' Quakers' football game with Otterbein is 2 p.m. Halftime festivities include the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen and introduction of the court, as well as the formal Athletic Hall of Fame induction. ScheduleThis year, the College is using an online mechanism for purchasing tickets to WC's sporting events. Tickets, which are scanned from the fan's phone at the entrance gates, are available for purchase at: <https://www.wilmingtonquakers.com/tickets>. NOTE: WC students, faculty and staff can use their College IDs for entrance and alumni have been alerted about how to receive special Homecoming game tickets. Throughout the day, the College is hosting special activities for alumni and members of the campus community. The Class of 1972 will receive their Quaker Emeriti Medallions at a special breakfast held in honor of the 50th reunion class. In the evening, a banquet is planned for this year's reunion classes (1972, 1982, 1992 and 2002) and special alumni awards will be presented recognizing outstanding careers and service. An exhibit honoring the life and career of the late John Bryant, former professor of education and basketball coach, will be featured in the main hallway of Hermann Court rom 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, Aggieville will again be set up at lunchtime for the College's agriculture alumni to celebrate the program's 75th anniversary with faculty, staff and current students. Reunions are also planned for such affinity groups as multicultural alumni, former swim team members, fraternities and sororities.
