He earned his Bachelor of Science degree and Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. He spent a year as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH/CDC) before coming to WC, where he has frequently taught inorganic chemistry and the first-year chemistry courses. More recently, he has taken over the teaching duties for the organic chemistry sequence. During his 15 years at Wilmington College, his research publications include 16 student co-authorships, working on projects such as the synthesis of transition metal complexes, the development of electrochemical methods and the catalysis of the decomposition of natural catechols. Two of his co-authored papers were nominated for the Charles Shepard Award (NIOSH/CDC) in 2007 and 2010, and one of was awarded the Alice Hamilton Award for Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH/CDC) in 2007. He is a 2008 recipient of the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from the Southwest Ohio Council for Higher Education. Dr. Steve Szeghi, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, accompanied him at the luncheon. He praised Goldcamp for “his outstanding devotion to students, innovation in the classroom, dedication to student learning, institutional service and a high regard for ethical and environmental considerations in his scholarly research.” Goldcamp was honored along with award recipients from the GC3’s 16 other member institutions. The GC3, formerly known as the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of College & Universities, advocates for higher education and uses the collective strength of its institutional members to positively influence the value of higher learning in the greater Cincinnati region. It also promotes professional development and opportunities for collaborative learning to advance the effectiveness of all members.
