Tradition Continues in Spite of Pandemic
Graduating WC seniors! You no doubt recall signing the Campus Rock four years ago when you started your journey at Wilmington College. With your graduation just a few weeks away, you’ve almost come full circle and now have the opportunity to bookend your time here by signing out.
PICTURED: The Campus Rock was freshly painted May 1 congratulating the Class of 2020.
On May 1, SGA officer Ariana Ricardi and a group of Student Affairs staff members painted The Rock white with a congratulatory message. Graduating seniors are welcome to show up in the coming days or weeks with a Sharpie and continue this campus tradition by signing your name.
The state’s stay-at-home order is in effect through most of May, yet persons are allowed to exercise outside while practicing physical distancing. Perhaps your daily exercise routine might include a brief walk around the campus and signing The Rock. The state’s order prohibits gatherings so consider a solo visit and, if you encounter others, please be sure to maintain physical distancing while being on campus.
NOTE: A limited supply of Sharpies will be stashed at the eastern entrance to College Hall (Carillon side) under the overhang. Consider bringing one of your own in case the Sharpies walked off before you arrived.
If you feel especially inspired when signing The Rock, take a selfie of yourself at The Rock and send it to public relations director <randy_sarvis@wilmington.edu>. We may use it on social media or in College publications.
We realize not everyone resides close to the campus and making a quick trip here is not possible. With that in mind, you may send your name to Marlena Allen (marlena_allen@wilmington.edu) with the Student Life Office and she will make sure your name appears on The Rock.
Special thanks to Ariana Ricardi, Sigrid Solomon, Jill Young, Carissa Macella, Michael Allbright, Nancy McCormick, Kazi McDowell and Nick Hoover for preparing The Rock.
