Watson Library Supporting Clinton County Reads 2023

'Ghosts of Wilmington College' Presentation to Be Featured During Monthlong Programming

Clinton County Reads 2023 will be hosting their kickoff event at Wilmington College's Watson Library on March 20, at 6:30 p.m., with a presentation on "The Death of Reading" by John Baskin, an author, editor and publisher with Orange Frazer Press in Wilmington.

Clinton County Reads will feature programming designed to show appreciation for and spark interest in reading from March 20 through April 20. The College and greater Wilmington community are invited to attend all presentations. Light refreshments are planned for the kick-off event at WC.

Isa Fernandez and Kenzie Hahn will present on "The Power of Books on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Blanchester Public Library

The month's centerpiece will be the reading and discussion of the novel, The Sentence, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Erdrich on April 13 at two locations: 2 p.m. at Wilmington Public Library and 7 p.m. at Blanchester Public Library.

Since The Sentence involves a haunted bookshop, it's especially appropriate that WC's Lee Bowman and Dr. Stephen Potthoff discuss "The Ghosts of Wilmington College" on April 17, at 6 p.m., at Watson Library.

The month-long celebration of reading will culminate on April 20 with a dinner meeting featuring Larkin Vonalt speaking on "What Do We Do with 70 Tons of Books?" The event, which costs $20, is at 6:30 p.m. in the Wilmington Municipal Building Moyer Community Room, 69 N. South St. Interested persons should contact Shoelaces Catering at (937) 302-6166 for reservations by April 14.

Complementing the Clinton County Reads programming is a Bulwer-Lytton-type writing contest. Learn more at: https://wilmington.libwizard.com/f/CCR_The_Sentence.  Winners of the contest will be announced at the April 20 closing dinner.

Joining Watson Library in support of the Clinton County Reads program are Books "N" More and the Wilmington, Blanchester and Sabina public libraries.
