College Recognizes Students for Outstanding Academics and Leadership

Department Awards Presented, Also Recognition for Green Key and Who's Who President Jim Reynolds described Sunday’s (April 23) 36th annual Student Honors Convocation at Wilmington College as a manifestation of students’ commitment to the academic mission of the College and an affirmation their partnership with faculty and staff. (PICTURED) Dr. Douglas Woodmansee, professor of biology, congratulates Anna Heineke as the recipient of the outstanding senior award for biology/life science. “We are very proud of what you’ve achieved here,” he said to the students, who were recognized for outstanding academics and leadership. “Your accomplishments inspire and motivate all of us, and reinforce the transforming experience of a Wilmington College education.” Dr. Erika Goodwin, vice president for academic affairs, called those honored among the College’s “best and brightest.” She added, “In your time here, you have made the most of your hands-on learning, hands-on living opportunities. You are truly living the mission and core values of the College.” Faculty in each academic area had an opportunity to choose an outstanding senior. They include: Agriculture — Montana Ray McFarland for agricultural business, Kristine Culler for agricultural communications, Caitlin M. Pauley for agronomy, Meghan R. Bruns for animal science and Kalynn Gillum for equine business management; Biology — Anna Heineke for life science. Business Administration — Miranda Gorman for accounting and Reid Delaney and Haieigh N/ Lovett for business administration; Chemistry/Mathematics — Alena N. Moore for chemistry and Rebecca D.Chase for mathematics. Education — Jessica Haines for early childhood education, Shelby P. Jeffries for early intervention specialist education, Carey Jullerat for adolescent/young adult education, Levi T. Myers for agricultural education and Christy Swanson for education studies; Fine Arts — Rebecca Hufford for art, Mikayle Hughes for visual communication design and Kylie Walker for public relations/journalism. Humanities — Taylot Lee Turner for English, Lacey Turner for history, Taylor Dill for religion & philosophy, and Kortni Cozzens for Spanish; Social Sciences — Taylot Lee Turner for political science, Theresa A. Knopf for psychology, Taylor Scott for social work and Megan L. Canfield for the hybridmajor, political communications for social change. Sport Sciences — Alisha Hayes for athletic training, Chavon Hines for sport management and Chelsea L. Sweeney, who received the Dr. Elizabeth S. Kinzig Award. Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is a national program recognizing seniors with a minimum 2.75 grade point average who have demonstrated significant leadership and/or service to their college and/or community during their enrollment.
