Chi Alpha

Chi Alpha stands for “Christ’s ambassador” in Greek. We are a christian organization located on more than 300 campuses throughout the U.S.A. and the world. Chi Alpha originated at Missouri State University in 1953. We carry God within us so that we may bring him closer to the people around us.

We are a movement of college age men and women earnestly following Jesus. Our mission is to reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through a spirit-filled community of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and mission to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world.

Our Name

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:20, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” Inspired by this verse we chose the phrase “christou apostoloi,” meaning “Christ’s sent ones,” to represent who we are. The Greek letters Chi (X) and Alpha (A) are the initials of this phrase, which reminds us that we should live to reflect Jesus’ life.

Our name is our constant reminder that each of us has a real part to play in this world. We each can carry Him within us to bring Him closer to the people around us.

Student Experiences

“Chi Alpha has helped me learn a lot throughout the years. This group has been very
supportive of each other. I feel connected with this group through faith. We learn from each
other to get closer to God.”

-Leigh Ann Cartier, Class of 2021

“Being a member of Chi Alpha has allowed me to grow as a man and reaffirm my faith.
When I was given an opportunity to be on the executive board it opened my eyes to the world
of leadership. It gave me the confidence to be a leader in my church and a better member of
my family. In my position I strive to be the best role model and man of faith I can be. As
Publicity Chair, I want to be able to bring in new members and help share the mission of Chi
Alpha and the word of God.”

– Ian Jones, Class of 2021

“Chi Alpha has made a mark on my life. It was a rock for me to stand on during my college
career. Without it, my faith would not be where it is today. Throughout my years in the
organization, I was encouraged, comforted, challenged, and loved. If you are looking for a
family as well as a place to grow and expand your faith, you have found the right
organization.”

– Brandon Ford, Class of 2020
