Steve is originally from the Wilmington area, having graduated from Clinton-Massie high school. After graduation he attended Morehead State University in Kentucky to study Agricultural Economics. In addition to studying at Morehead, he also earned an Ohio Agri-Business Management Certificate. He has been in the commercial grain business over 40 years specializing in grain origination, hedging and value added marketing of commodities.
Shortly after graduation from college, Steve started work at Buckley Brothers in Wilmington where he worked in sales and production until 1995 when he became the President and General Manager. Buckley Bros., Inc. currently consists of three drive-thru feed stores and three walk in retail stores. In addition to pet food and livestock feeds, the business provides a competitive grain market for area farmers. Two of their grain facilities are located in Wilmington with combined storage capacity of over 630,000 bushels. Another country elevator located just south of Wilmington offers 65,000 bushel of storage. The company has a fleet of semi-trucks to move customer’s grain both at harvest and throughout the year.
Steve teaches AG361, a commodity marketing class, each spring semester dealing with marketing practices and procedures from a farmer’s perspective. It explains the tools of marketing, use of futures markets, market analysis, and development of a marketing plan.
Steve and his wife Trudi live near Wilmington where they entertain their two grown children and eight grandchildren. He is active in the Leadership Clinton Institute, Republican Central Committee, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Clinton County Board of Elections and the Dove Church of Wilmington.
