All of the Departmental Farms are managed under the direction and organization of the Farm Coordinator. This involves a significant amount of time teaching students the “how to” of agriculture. My tasks involved everything from fence building to animal husbandry to adjusting farm machinery and more. I have been fortunate to have been active in livestock and crop farming all my life, worked for John Deere Equipment and have had great on and off farm experiences.
Agriculture changes and with change comes new opportunities to learn. In the past few years the emphasis on locally grown produce has provided an opportunity to learn how design a drip irrigation system and catch and store rainwater from one of the machinery barns, as well as grow produce in high tunnels and in raised beds. Recent conferences I have attended are the Southeast Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
I believe in the importance of community and have been active in various Clinton County 4-H as well and Clinton County Fair committees. Outside of Clinton County I spend time judging 4-H and Open shows in Ohio and Indiana.
