Michael Wells

Library Director,
Library

Michael Wells became Library Director at Wilmington College in June 2022.  Prior to coming to Wilmington College, Michael served as the Assistant Director for the Wilmington Public Library of Clinton County and before that, was the Library Director at Thomas More University from 2018 to 2021. Before Thomas More, he enjoyed five years as the Systems Librarian and Lecturer at Northern Kentucky University, two years as the Library/IT Director at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and six years as the Manager of the Center for Information Management at Miami University.

Michael is a 2010 graduate of Kent State University with a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree.  In 2017, Michael was the winner of the EBSCO Charleston Conference Scholarship, and was also nominated for the Frederick G. Kilgour Award for research in libraries and information technology.  His recognition with both national awards was due to his progressive view of technology use in libraries and a willingness to pursue scholarship that was innovative to both academic and public libraries.

Michael was elected in May 2022 to serve as a City Charter Commissioner in South Lebanon, Ohio where he and his family make their home.  In his role as Commissioner, he is actively engaged in the potential creation of a new public library district for the City of South Lebanon.  He is also a current standing member and advisor to the Wilmington Public Library Friends of the Library organization.  Michael is a husband and father to three children, an avid amateur radio operator, and a fly fisherman in his spare time.
