Harold Thirey

Assistant Professor,

Harold Thirey was raised on a general livestock farm in southern Ohio, where his family had a small dairy herd and raised hogs, sheep, beef cattle and poultry. His grandfather maintained a team of draft horses, which were sentimental to the way he was raised. His grandfather and his father were very progressive in their farming practices as they, early on, adopted the use of crop rotations, tractors, hybrid corn, fertilization and liming.

Academic Background

  • Graduated from Wilmington College and attended graduate school at The Pennsylvania State University and The Ohio State University
  • Taught in the Dairy Science Department at Delaware Valley College and in the Agriculture Department at Southern State Community College before coming to Wilmington College.

Community Involvement

  • Clinton County Women’s Center – Past Chairman of the Board
  • Member – Dove Church

WC Academic Activities

  • Introduced a Food Science curriculum into the agriculture program as a way of completing the food chain from production agriculture to the consumer
  • AI schools – worked with COBA to offer this technique to students
  • Introduced into the agriculture curriculum new courses in Dairy Science, Livestock Judging, Animal Health, and Farm Building and Design
  • Aggies Club advisor
