Wittenberg Prof to Speak on the Marshall Plan and the Cold War at WC

Also, Saturday's Museum Day Live! to Feature Children's Art Projects and Cold War Propaganda Films Special programming in conjunction with Wilmington College’s Marshall Plan poster exhibit continues with a presentation on “The Marshall Plan through the Looking Glass: Soviet Reaction and Response to the Start of the Cold War” Tuesday (Sept. 26), at 7 p.m., in the Merian R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center. (PICTURED) The Marshall Plan posters, this one titled "Cooperation Means Prosperity," highlighted the rebuilding of Europe led by the American Marshall Plan. Wittenberg University professor Dr. Christian Raffensperger will present the lecture against the backdrop of the QHC’s exhibit titled “Cooperation Means Prosperity: Marshall Plan Posters for Post WWII Recovery,” which is running through Dec. 8. Normal gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Fridays. Raffensperger, associate professor of history, directs Wittenberg’s Pre-Modern & Ancient World Studies and Russia & Central Eurasian Program. He has a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. His first book, titled Reimagining Europe: Kievan Rus in the Medieval World, 988-1146, was published by Harvard University Press and won the Ohio Academy of History Publication Award in 2013. Rus is the medieval kingdom that became Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. His latest book, The Kingdom of Rus, is scheduled for release this year. Other programming surrounding the QHC’s poster exhibit includes special Saturday hours, as part of the national Museum Day Live!, from noon to 5 p.m., Sept. 23, featuring art activities for children and the showing Cold War era European propaganda films in the gallery. Also, QHC and Peace Resource Center will co-host the showing of the film The Atomic Café Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m., in the QHC.
