SENIOR SALUTES Honor Wilmington College's Graduating Seniors Senior Cheyann McKee speaks from the heart about her love for the Black Student Initiative (BSI) organization for which she provided leadership as president this year, noting "They have served as my campus family for my entire four years!" PICTURED: Vanessa Cheyann McKee In fact, Chip Murdock, director of diversity and inclusion, led numerous excursions, both in the region and nationally, that highlighted the African American experience. These include the College's annual Spring Break trips visiting important sites associated with the American Civil Rights Movement and ventures to Washington, D.C., where they toured the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and many of the nation's other revered monuments and memorials. Those activities offered special opportunities for personal bonding through a shared experience. "All of 'Chip Trips' combined have served as some of my favorite Wilmington College memories," Cheyann said, noting that her entire WC experience has transformed her as an individual. "Wilmington College has assisted in the expansion of my identity, I have matured incredibly at WC, specifically with growth both intellectually and emotionally," added the criminal justice/psychology major from Wilmington. "I was not anticipating some of the incredible opportunities I have been blessed with these past four years. Similarly, I was not expecting to meet some of individuals that I now claim as close friends." As Cheyann looks back on her years at WC, she offers a word of advice to those that follow on their WC journeys: "Slow down and cherish every experience. Capitalize on this time of freedom and exploration." SENIOR SALUTES are the result of Wilmington College's graduating seniors completing an online survey requesting them to look back on their time at WC and share favorite memories, especially meaningful events/relationships and how their time at the College has impacted them.
