Students Help Plant 300-Plus Trees and Shrubs on Conservancy Land

Community Service Project Enhances Todds Fork Preserve Wilmington College students comprised 20 of the three-dozen volunteers who planted more than 300 trees and shrubs Nov. 16 at Todds Fork Preserve. PICTURED: A handful of the WC students who volunteered planting trees are, from the left, Owen Baumann, Mason Brewer, Casey Miller, Lauren Galloway and Maddie Scott. The 220-acre preserve about a mile outside Wilmington city limits, is part of the Cardinal Land Conservancy. Formerly known as Clinton County Open Lands, the conservancy is a non-governmental land preservation organization that operates on seven southwest Ohio counties. The volunteers planted and staked tress that included Oak, Maple, Sycamore, Persimmon, Redbud and American Plum, according to Neil Snarr, emeritus professor of sociology, who assisted with the endeavor. “There is an expression of deep concern for the future of our globe and the rapid deterioration of our environment,” he said. “The students were self-motivated and, from all indications, this is an activity that will grow in the future as more Wilmington College students become involved.”
