Photography Students Plant Trees along Lowe’s Drive

Communication Arts
Class Takes on Community Service Project  Members of a Wilmington College communication arts class were out bright and early Thursday morning assisting city workers in planting 80 trees along Lowe’s Drive — and photographing each other on the job. Nick Wiget, instruct or Photography I, had his class take on the community beautification task as a service project initiated by Mayor John Stanforth’s office. “It always makes for a good collaboration when we’re able to get students from the College out of the classroom and working in our community,” Wiget said. “This project suited our class well, as we’re actively teaching students how to become good photojournalists, so they were able to both help plant the trees and capture some of their work in photos.” Sophomore Jalen Douglas said community outreach is important to him. “These types of experiences are great because it gives me an opportunity to meet and network with other people with whom I wouldn’t normally interact.” Other WC students involved with the project included: Jadrien Douglas, Sam Gaddis, Igor Granja, Miranda Groseclose, Shelbie Harris, Kayle Mast and Sam Stanley.
