New Protocols for Campus Building Access Effective This Month

Students Will Need Their Student ID's to Enter Buildings After Hours The safety and security of our campus community is of paramount importance. Recent incidents involving persons from outside the College have prompted a change in our building security protocols. For example, earlier this semester, surveillance cameras revealed that several students' cars were broken into and items stolen, and local teenagers entered an unlocked Pyle Student Center in the early evening when few persons were around. They broke a television and vandalized a pool table. Effective earlier this month, most academic and administrative buildings will be open/unlocked on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Facilities like Hermann Court, Boyd Cultural Arts Center and Kelly Center, in which sporting events and/or community programs are held, will adjust their hours to accommodate guests and other visitors on the evenings of events. Student access to campus facilities, other than one's own residence hall, from 6 to 10 p.m. and on weekends will require electronic access through your Wilmington College ID card. Pyle Center, which is open/unlocked from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, can be accessed via ID cards from 5 to 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. weekdays and from 5 a.m. through 1 a.m. on weekends. Also, students will not have access to academic and administrative buildings on weekends except during the library's regular weekend hours. Information on after-hours student access to Hermann Court and the Quaker Recreation Center (QRC) will be forthcoming. Related information:
  1. Only card access doors will be unlocked during the times noted below. Campus Safety will no longer be manually unlocking any additional doors. Double doors that have card access on one side will be unlocked on that side. The other door will be used for exit only.
  2. No other doors on campus should be manually barred down or propped open at any time without the permission of Campus Safety. This is to ensure the safety and security of the campus.
Those who misplaced their College IDs or otherwise need a new one should contact the Housing Office on the main floor of Pyle Center.
