Gabriel Nygard: ‘I Made Lifelong Friendships with People from All Over the World’

SENIOR SALUTES Honor Wilmington College's Graduating Seniors  2020 graduate Gabriel Nygard came to Wilmington College from Sweden expecting to become friends with Americans on the men's soccer team — he certainly did that — but he was surprised by the number of great friends he made outside the sport and from other countries, including his own. PICTURED: Gabriel Nygard "My most positive unexpected experience was not just creating lifelong friendships with domestic students, but also creating friendship with people from other places in the world," he said. Gabriel is a business management and economics graduate from Gothenburg, Sweden, who was selected as the top senior with a self-designed major. He plans to attend graduate school. Gabriel was active in men's soccer, International Club and Sigma Zeta fraternity. Some of his favorite memories include beating then nationally ranked Mount Union in an overtime thriller his junior year, along with "hanging with my friends at someone's apartment and playing beach volleyball during the warm days." "Being far away from home gave me time to get to know myself better, and actually realize what I'm capable of," he said, noting he greatly appreciates how the sharing of knowledge by faculty resulted in his academic growth and success. To future seniors, he encourages them to make the most of each day. "Utilize the time you have in College well because it flies by!" SENIOR SALUTES are the result of Wilmington College's graduating seniors completing an online survey requesting them to look back on their time at WC and share favorite memories, especially meaningful events/relationships and how their time at the College has impacted them.
