Courage Series to Present Perspective of Drag Queen

Eli Bolitho '14 Was Active in WC Theatre Wilmington College’s Courage Series has looked a number of different profiles on courage this year — firefighter/EMT, father of a soldier held hostage in Iraq and several persons close to the death penalty issue. The next program, which will represent a sharp left turn from anything previously presented, will feature a young alumnus that works regularly as a drag queen in Columbus. Eli Bolitho, a 2014 graduate, will share insight into his work portraying Eris Grey Monday (March 23), at 7 p.m., in the T. Canby Jones Meetinghouse. Some of the aspects of performing in drag he may discuss are how he learned that specialized performance genre, how he’s dealt with the various reactions he’s received and how its affected, if at all, other realms of his life, such as relationships, work and political leanings. Campus minister Dan Kasztelan said his broad definition of courage includes the strength to do difficult, dangerous and unpopular things, to risk one’s life and also to risk self-esteem in the eyes of persons that possess conflicting views or values. In my mind, courage and hope overlap when a person finds strength to do on a daily basis what seems to have little chance for success,” Kasztelan said. The Courage Series is presented by the Office of Campus Ministry. The programs are free and open to the public.
