College Holds ‘Accepted Student Recognition Day’

Future Students Honored for Scholastic Achievement Nearly 400 high school seniors and family members converged at Wilmington College today (April 22) for Accepted Student Recognition Day at which these future WC students were honored for scholastic achievement. Each of these nearly 150 students has been formally accepted to enroll at WC beginning the fall 2017 semester. Many also received special scholarship recognition as recipients of Presidential, Dean’s and endowed scholarships, as well faculty honors, talent awards and other recognition for academic achievement. Adam Lohrey, director of admission, was especially gratified with the large number of prospective students, “the majority of whom will join us as members of this fall’s freshman class.” Numerous other WC scholarship recipients and accepted students were unable to attend due to such conflicts as high school proms and spring sports participation, as well as not living close enough to make traveling to the non-required, half-day program feasible. “As admission director, this is my favorite day of the year,” Lohrey said, noting this event is one of the especially enjoyable manifestations of work by his admission team. “It was a great day and a lot of fun with many of our current students and faculty and staff all around the campus to answer questions. I enjoyed seeing so many of these families carrying large bags filled with items they purchased from the bookstore.” During the formal program, President Jim Reynolds, student government president Travis Scheadler and Bob Touchton, chair of the Board of Trustees, joined Lohrey in welcoming the campus guests, who also had the opportunity for campus tours, lunch in the Student Dining Hall and having a photo taken with Jim and Sue Reynolds and Quakerman, the College’s mascot.
