15 HR Podcasts You Should Subscribe to ASAP

Do you have a passion for all things HR? Does helping people navigate issues in the workplace sound like an inspiring career choice? If so, a career as an HR professional could be an ideal path for you. To help you along your journey in or toward a career in HR, we’ve pulled together 15 HR podcasts you could subscribe to right now. Each one takes a slightly different approach. Some are weekly podcasts, while others update less frequently. Check out some of these podcasts so you can learn about the topics affecting HR professionals today, such as workforce technology, mental health, employee engagement, and company culture.

1. Hiring on All Cylinders

Our first recommendation is Hiring on All Cylinders, a podcast by Entelo. This recruitment-focused podcast releases one or two episodes per week, usually between 20 and 25 minutes in length. The podcast team interviews industry experts and analysts on all sorts of recruitment and talent acquisition topics. If you’re interested in the recruitment side of HR, this is a great podcast to get you started. With over 100 episodes of back content, there’s plenty to listen to!

2. HCI Podcasts (including Nine to Thrive HR)

HCI, the Human Capital Institute, maintains a database of original podcasts, including their Nine to Thrive HR podcasts. These podcasts also tend to land around the 20-minute mark, and they cover an extremely broad range of HR-related topics. Here, too, you’ll find industry experts in nearly every episode. Nine to Thrive HR is a great generalist podcast for current and future HR professionals.

3. HR Party of One

HR Party of One is a fairly new YouTube-based podcast and video series that delivers short (two- to ten-minute) tips and tricks for HR professionals at small and medium businesses. This podcast from the BerniePortal team offers advice on the day-to-day minutia that matters, like benefits, compliance, onboarding, offboarding, payroll, and so forth. It’s great to have an engaging video-based option, but if audio is your preferred method, you can get HR Party of One on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Spotify.

4. Punk Rock HR

Punk Rock HR comes from the creative mind of Laurie Ruettimann, a former HR chief who transitioned into a career as a writer, speaker, and podcaster who teaches business leaders and HR pros how to fix common and troubling issues in the workplace. Punk Rock HR is a storytelling podcast covering what Ruettimann calls “the real world of work.” Topics range widely but tend to have a storytelling bent, making for engaging listening. This podcast tends to stick with a 20–30-minute timeframe and releases approximately every week.

5. The Indigo Podcast

If you’re looking for something a little more general business-focused, The Indigo Podcast might be of interest. This weekly podcast touches on all aspects of business, including many topics that relate to the world of HR. There’s a mix of everything here, including management and hiring advice and as well as guidance for college students. This is a long-form podcast, with most episodes clocking around one hour.

6. The Anxious Achiever

From the team at Harvard Business Review, The Anxious Achiever explores the crucial topic of mental health and work. Hosted by Morra Aarons-Mele, The Anxious Achiever features interviews by business leaders who have dealt with their own mental health work challenges. This is a stellar podcast focused on a specific area that’s meaningful for many in the HR profession. So far there are three seasons with 12 to 14 episodes apiece, releasing weekly during the “season.” Episodes range in length from around 30 to 45 minutes.

7. HR Happy Hour

Hosted by Steve Boese and Trish McFarlane, HR Happy Hour is both the longest running and the most downloaded podcast on HR. The show covers topics in human resources, management, leadership, and workforce technology. Episodes drop weekly and range from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the topic and guest. With nearly 500 episodes posted, HR Happy Hour offers a wealth of content to explore.

8. #SECURETHESEAT

Hosted by Minda Harts, #SECURETHESEAT is a podcast that explores the unique challenges facing women in the workplace. The title comes from the idea that women (and especially women of color) must work harder to secure a seat at the table in an organization. This is, of course, something HR professionals work to avoid, which is why the podcast makes this list. In terms of getting a seat at the table, Harts has both been there and helped many others get there, too. If you’re looking for a podcast that can expand your perspective on gender and racial issues in the workplace, #SECURETHESEAT is worth a listen.

9. The Way We Lead

The Way We Lead is another podcast that explores leadership from the perspective of leading and advocating for underrepresented populations. It’s a podcast that explores the world of inclusive leadership. The podcast only lasted one season of ten episodes, but there’s plenty to absorb across the slate of guests and topics. Episodes range from 30 minutes to over an hour.

10. Recruitment on the Go

Recruitment on the Go is a daily podcast designed for your daily commute. Episodes are short, just 10 to 15 minutes, the perfect snackable size to get up to speed on trends in recruitment and to gain ideas in this space. If you work in recruitment or hope to do so one day, you’ll get meaningful, actionable insights that can improve and inform your recruitment strategies.

11. Digital HR Leaders

David Green hosts Digital HR Leaders, a podcast where he speaks to senior HR leaders at the forefront of data-driven and digital HR strategies. Sample topics include creating a data driven HR culture, reducing collaborative overload, and using data, analytics, and AI in talent management. This is a “medium-form” podcast, with episode lengths ranging from 40 minutes to a little over an hour. There are 78 episodes in the catalog thus far, with new episodes dropping weekly. As a bonus for those who would rather read than listen, Digital HR Leaders posts a full transcript along with every episode.

12. Honest HR

From SHRM itself comes a new podcast, Honest HR, a show that has real, honest conversations with HR professionals. Topics can get raw, from mental health to team management in the modern workplace and serving veterans. One episode even deals with domestic violence at work. Honest HR is a monthly podcast with variable episode length. Some are just over 30 minutes, with others nearing 90. Mid-career professionals have another reason to listen to this one: Honest HR offers SHRM recertification PDCs, aligned with the Competency and Knowledge (SHRM BoCK) portion of recertification.

13. Workology Podcast

Workology Podcast targets HR leaders who are ready for change, what’s known as a “disruptive workplace.” Hosted by HR leader and founder of Workology.com, Jessica Miller-Merrell, Workology Podcast interviews leaders at global corporations like Adidas, Microsoft, Accenture, Gap, and AT&T. Topics include workplace technology, social justice and diversity efforts, and deep-dive interviews with specific industry leaders. If you want to be the first to know about the latest innovations or issues facing the workplace and its HR department, this is a podcast to follow. Workology releases multiple episodes every week, each about 25 minutes in length.

14. HBR IdeaCast

HBR IdeaCast is another more general business podcast recommendation, and it’s a great listen for HR professionals as well as other leaders. It’s a weekly podcast that’s been running a long time, with over 800 episodes in the catalog. Each week, hosts Alison Beard and Curt Nickisch (both senior editors at Harvard Business Review) discuss events and concepts in business and management with leading thinkers spanning many industries. Recent HR-focused episodes include a Back to Work, Better series exploring how COVID-19 changed talent management and how companies should think about the return to work. Episodes of HBR IdeaCast range from 20 to 30 minutes.

15. The Chad & Cheese Podcast

As the name might imply, The Chad & Cheese Podcast is a little offbeat. Their tagline is “HR’s Most Dangerous Podcast,” which is code for a good dose of swearing and a generally brash approach to life and podcasting. Still, with a combined 40 years of HR experience, Chad Sowash and Joel Cheeseman have a lot to offer — and do so in a way that sounds different from the buttoned-up experiences that make up the rest of this list. With a total of six — yes, six — distinct podcasts in their brand, there’s something for every HR professional here.
