FieldworkFieldwork

Fieldwork Education (FWE) comprises a critical component of Wilmington College’s Occupational Therapy Program. Fieldwork experiences allow students the opportunity to use evidence-based practice skills. For further information, review AOTA’s Fieldwork Resources.

FieldworkStudents are expected to complete both level I and Level II Fieldwork Experiences:

Level I Fieldwork Experiences occur concurrently with academic coursework. These experiences are designed to enrich didactic content. Level I Experiences will occur during semesters 2, 3, & 4.

“Level I fieldwork may be met through one or more of the following instructional methods:

  • Simulated environments
  • Standardized patients
  •  Faculty practice
  • Faculty-led site visits
  •  Supervision by a fieldwork educator in a practice environment” (ACOTE, 2018 ,p. 41).

Level II Fieldwork Experiences occur at the conclusion of the didactic phase of occupational therapy curricula. These experiences are designed to develop competent, entry-level, generalist practitioners (ACOTE, 2018). Level II Experiences occur during semesters 5 & 6 and consist of 24 weeks of full-time fieldwork experiences, supervised by a currently licensed occupational therapist (ACOTE, 2018).
