The start of the Fall 2018 semester brought the excitement of opening the Quaker Recreation Center (QRC). Previously the site of the Clinton County YMCA (adjacent to Hermann Court), the space has been renovated into a fresh and trendy spot for faculty, staff and students to enjoy as a campus-exclusive fitness facility. The beautiful 2,184 square foot Group Fitness Room contains a wide variety of cardio machines, along with other equipment such as free weights and bench, stability balls and yoga mats. It sports a 55” flat screen TV and a Bluetooth speaker for visitors to enjoy. Wi-Fi is connectable throughout the facility.
The front lobby houses a welcome desk, a 434 square-foot cable weight machine area, a casual lounging space with futons and a 55” flat screen monitor for viewing TV or playing personal video games.
A spacious 483 square-foot Spinning Studio has a quality sound system and mood lighting to create the ultimate Spinning experience.
Wilmington College is proud to bring wrestling back to campus as a varsity sport for Fall 2018. The wrestlers have a designated room in the QRC that is newly painted, carpeted and will have wall-to-wall (and up the wall) mats installed for their practice facility.
The gym is shared with Aerial’s Athletics, allowing the QRC to enjoy the other half-court basketball gym for shooting baskets, intermural sports, and recreational activities. The indoor walking/running track offers a bird’s eye view of the entire gym as patrons make 16.5 laps to reach a mile.
The QRC has both men’s and women’s locker rooms with restrooms, but showers are not available at this time.
Patrons can make an appointment at the QRC to learn more about using the equipment and setting up workout programs. QuakerFit Group Fitness classes are offered and led by certified instructors to keep people healthy, motivated and energized during their fitness journey.
