Commencement FAQs


HOW DO I GET TICKETS?

Each senior will receive (8) tickets for guests. Every guest (including children) attending the Commencement ceremony must have a ticket. Tickets can be picked up at the Grad Fair onMarch 16th. If you can’t attend the Grad Fair, you may pick tickets up beginning onMarch 17th at One Stop. Tickets that are not picked up by 5:00 p.m. onApril 1st will be redistributed to other students as extra tickets. To pick up tickets, you will need to show a picture ID. Students will not be allowed to pick up tickets for other seniors. If you do not need all eight (8) tickets, please return the extras to the Student One Stop Center beforeApril 2nd.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE TICKETS?

Reasonable requests for additional tickets (typically only one or two extra tickets are available per student) may be made at the Grad Fair on Wednesday, March 16th r at One Stop between March 17th and Friday, April 1st. Main campus students can pick up additional tickets beginning Monday, April 11th. The deadline to pick up additional tickets is Friday, April 22nd.

WHAT IF MY GUEST(S) REQUIRES HANDICAPPED SEATING?

Limited, reserved handicapped seating for Commencement is available in Hermann Court but will require special ticket identification. This identification will be provided after receipt of your request. Requests must be made online by filling out the “Guest Handicapped Seating Request” form that will be released on Monday, February 15th. The RSVP will be due by Monday, March 14th. Families should discuss which guests will require seating in this area. One (but only one) family member must accompany anyone needing handicapped seating to assist with their medical and personal needs. Other family members must sit in the bleachers. Wilmington College staff is NOT responsible for attending handicapped guests. As an alternative to handicapped seating in Hermann Court, additional seats in an air conditioned room (location TBD) will be available to watch the livestreaming of the ceremony. A family member must accompany anyone needing handicapped seating to assist with their medical and personal needs. You will be required to have a Commencement ticket and special ticket identification for this option as well.

WHERE DO I GET MY CAP AND GOWN?

Caps and gowns are required for Commencement and may be purchased at the Grad Fair, held in McCoy on March 16th from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. If you are not able to attend the Grad Fair, you may purchase your cap and gown at the bookstore beginning March 17th. The College Bookstore is open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Be sure to try your gown on and zip it to ensure proper fit. You should iron your gown before the ceremony.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR BESIDES MY CAP AND GOWN?

This is a formal occasion and appropriate attire under your gown is required. For the ceremony, it is suggested you wear comfortable shoes and men should wear pants (not shorts). Keep in mind that the gym is not air conditioned. Depending on the weather, it can get very hot in Hermann Court! No flip flops, please.

WHAT CAN I BRING TO THE CEREMONY?

Don’t bring anything that you can’t carry in your pocket under your robe. There is no option for securing personal property during the ceremony. We strongly discourage carrying large items (i.e. balloons or bouquets).

WHAT ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS?

One complimentary copy of the final transcript will be mailed to home addresses the week following Commencement. Additional copies of transcripts may be requested through Student One Stop, the Office of Academic Records, or by using the transcript request form located on the website. The fee for additional transcripts is $10 per copy.
