Commencement FAQs

HOW DO I GET TICKETS?

Each senior will receive seven (7) tickets for guests. Every guest (including children) attending the Commencement ceremony must have a ticket. Tickets can be picked up at the Grad Fair on Wednesday, March 21st. To pick up tickets, you will need to show a picture ID. If you can’t attend the Grad Fair, you may pick tickets up beginning on Thursday, March 22nd at One Stop. Tickets that are not picked up by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6th will be redistributed to other students as extra tickets. Students will not be allowed to pick up tickets for other seniors. If you do not need all seven (7) tickets, please return the extra tickets to the One Stop before Thursday, April 5th.

WHAT IF I NEED MORE TICKETS?

Reasonable requests for additional tickets (typically only one or two extra tickets are available per student) may be made at the Grad Fair on Wednesday, March 21st or at One Stop between Thursday, March 22nd and Friday, April 6th. Main campus students can pick up additional tickets beginning Monday, April 17th. The deadline to pick up additional tickets is Friday, April 27th.

WHAT IF MY GUEST(S) REQUIRES SPECIAL SEATING ACCOMMODATION?

Limited, reserved special seating accommodation for Commencement is available in Hermann Court but will require a marked ticket. This identification will be provided after receipt of your request. Requests must be made online by filling out the “Special Seating Accommodation Request 2018” form by Tuesday, March 20th. This form is located at HERE, as well as on WCportal/My Academics tab. Families should discuss which guests will require seating in this area. One (but only one) family member must accompany anyone needing special seating accommodation to assist with his or her medical and personal needs. The attending family member must also have a marked ticket to sit in the special seating accommodation area. Other family members must sit in the bleachers. Wilmington College staff is NOT responsible for attending to guests that require special seating accommodation.

WHERE DO I GET MY CAP AND GOWN?

Caps and gowns are required for Commencement and may be purchased at the Grad Fair, held in McCoy on Wednesday, March 21st from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. If you are not able to attend the Grad Fair, you may purchase your cap and gown at the bookstore beginning Thursday, March 22nd. The College Bookstore is open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Be sure to try your gown on and zip it to ensure proper fit.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR BESIDES MY CAP AND GOWN?

This is a formal occasion and appropriate attire under your gown is required. Do not iron your gown, but please hang it up or steam it to remove creases before the ceremony. For the ceremony, it is suggested you wear comfortable shoes and men should wear pants (not shorts). Keep in mind that the gym is not air-conditioned. Depending on the weather, it can get very hot in Hermann Court! No flip-flops, please.

WHAT CAN I BRING TO THE CEREMONY?

Don’t bring anything that you can’t carry in your pocket under your robe. There is no option for securing personal property during the ceremony. We strongly discourage carrying large items (i.e. balloons or bouquets).

WHAT ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS?

One complimentary copy of the final transcript will be mailed to the student’s home address the week following Commencement. Additional copies of transcripts may be requested through One Stop, Academic Records, or by using the transcript request form located on the website. There is a fee for additional transcripts.
