Wilmington College is pleased to announce our commitment to the growth, expansion, and promotion of our newly emerging band programs. This initiative is a result of both student interest in pursuing instrumental music activities and the College’s responsibility to continue promotion of the musical arts on our campus and in the Wilmington community.
Wilmington College continues to take positive steps on its path to enhance the Quaker Thunder Pep Band, which has grown in both size and quality. Additional instruments and band attire will be two big steps that we are excited to take for the 2021-2022 academic year.
The Wilmington College “Quaker Thunder” Pep Band is comprised of students from across various academic disciplines on campus. The band performs at several events throughout the spring semester, primarily cheering on our Quaker Basketball teams during home games. Students may also have opportunities to travel for select “away game” performances, based on attendance, academic eligibility, and seniority. Membership is open to all students, regardless of academic interest, with experience playing a standard band instrument:
*NOTE: students interested in drum set, guitar/bass guitar, or auxiliary percussion may need to audition for placement. Please contact the Director for audition details or questions.
Some of these instruments can be provided by the College for a small fee, or rented for the duration of the school year from the local music store. School-owned instruments are signed out on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority will be given to students who participated in a fall semester ensemble.

Our concert ensembles and private lesson opportunities provide additional enrichment for students seeking even more musical fulfillment. Membership is open to all students, regardless of academic interest, with experience playing a standard band instrument. In addition, students who specialize or double on auxiliary instruments have opportunities to play these instruments in a concert setting:
Concert ensembles perform at scheduled campus concerts, as well as occasional opportunities for travel to perform at instrumental ensembles or conventions. Our concert ensembles are select groups; musicians participating in concert ensembles are held to higher musical standards, and practice is expected. While not required, private lessons are available each semester for a small fee, and students are encouraged to participate in the private lessons program.

All students who participate in the Wilmington College Bands and maintain participation standards are eligible to receive a Band Talent Award for their contributions to the College. Many WC students are already benefiting from this award, and currently enrolling students are eligible as well!
