Shakespeare

TR 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Instructor: Laura Struve

“Not of an age, but for all time”–Although definitely a product of the Renaissance, Shakespeare is forever, and his works still tell us things about the human condition (including race, gender, social class, and sexuality). We still see movies and plays of his work, and he’s taught in high school and college. In this course, we will study the plays and sonnets of Shakespeare in depth. We will read comedies, tragedies, and histories in order to see how the bard worked in various genres. This course will include readings, films, and other resources as appropriate, and we will go to see a play at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.  Assignments include weekly writing assignments and two major papers. If you have questions or concerns, please email me at laura_struve@wilmington.edu, and I will be happy to answer you. And you won’t have to spend ANY money on books for this class!!
