Topics in Global Literature: Crime & Passion G, W

TR 1-2:30 p.m.

Instructor: Marta Wilkinson

“Crime & Passion” is a special topics course that will explore the dark side of crime through some world-famous characters and works. This study will also take us into the dominant theories and studies of criminality (including a profile of the moral monster) and lead us into various lines of questioning including motive and morality. We will begin with a treatise that defies traditional moral standards and proceed through to questions of theft and justifiable murder.

The first few works will explore the personality of the criminal as they plot, plan and carry out their crimes…the later readings will include a few best-sellers that require some detective work, and a bit of computer hacking.

Readings will include The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Crime and Punishment, Angels & Demons and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
