Discovering Literature

MWF 10:20 to 11:20 a.m.

This course will provide an introduction to the genres of literature, literary terms and techniques for analysis. We will also cover some basics about literary theory and schools of thought while emphasizing skills in critical reading and writing. We will discover the 4 basic genres of literature and get a good sampling of some of the greatest hits in each one.

The reading will represent the 4 basic genres covered in the class: some poetry, a comedy and a tragedy in drama, some short stories and a work of fantastic longer fiction!
