Before pursuing this you normally attain a bachelors degree in something related or complete a pre-professional program to satisfy pre-requisites. While at Wilmington College you can major in athletic training and complete pre-requisite requirements for other graduate medical programs. Your academic advisor will work closely with you to attain your goals here at Wilmington and beyond. Many of our students have gone on to advanced degree programs in medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic, physician assistant, podiatry, and nursing. Completing a degree in athletic training will give you an excellent background in sports medicine. If you would like to specialize in sports medicine along with an advance medical degree, athletic training is a great place to begin. The classes and clinical experience you complete for athletic training will assist you in other medical or graduate school programs. Many of our former students have commented on how much their degree in athletic training has assisted them in other medical programs.After completing a degree in athletic training you may begin working in the field of sports medicine upon graduation or go on to pursue a graduate degree. Many graduate programs have tough admissions requirements. Not all students get into the program of their choice due to competitive admissions requirements. Having a degree that you can enter the work force with after graduation will give you a level of security. If you do not get into the graduate program of your choice immediately after graduation, you can work as an athletic trainer as you continue trying to get admitted into graduate school.
