Sigrid Solomon Receives ‘Appalachian Unsung Hero’ Award

WC's Dean of Students Recognized at May 1 Ceremony in Dayton Sigrid Solomon, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, was recognized for "significant contributions" made within the Miami Valley Appalachian community. She was presented with the award for Outstanding Service to Education May 1 at Sinclair Community College’s 19th annual Appalachian Unsung Hero Award ceremony. Solomon has been a member of WC's administration since 2007. (ABOVE) Sigrid Solomon (right) receives the Appalachian Unsung Hero Award for Outstanding Service to Education. Recognized as a major influence at the College, in the community and in her church, Cornerstone Baptist Church, one of her nominators stated Solomon’s “greatest gift is helping young people become successes so they can go out and impact the world.” She is or has been a member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters Board, University of Cincinnati's Chief Diversity Forum, Wilmington AM Rotary and American College Personnel Assn. Other recognition for work with youth and young adults include the Leadership Clinton County Award. In addition, at the ceremony, Art Brooks, retired director of multicultural affairs at WC, received the Appalachian Unsung Hero Award for Outstanding Youth Leadership.
