College Recognizes Students for Outstanding Academics and Leadership

Micaela Wright Selected for Robert E. Lucas Leadership Award President Jim Reynolds described Sunday’s (April 17) 35th annual Student Recognition Convocation as a manifestation of students’ commitment to the academic mission of the College and an affirmation their partnership with faculty and staff. (PICTURED) President Jim Reynolds congratulates Micaela Wright upon her receiving the Lucas Award. “We are very proud of what you’ve accomplished,” he said to the students. “Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to teach you and to be part of your education.” Micaela Wright received the Robert E. Lucas Leadership Award that recognizes the graduating senior “who is respected by the entire College community, has a dynamic and optimistic personality and has made a significant contribution to the campus.” Lucas served as WC's 15th president. Reynolds called Wright, who served as this year’s student government president, the “very model of student leadership” whose service and leadership activities — “numerous and rich” — encompass both the campus and greater Wilmington community. “Micaela has provided us with a living example of the often transformational nature of the Wilmington College experience,” Reynolds added. Academic awards were presented to: Sam Bickel for agricultural business; Hannah Williamson, agricultural communications; Lindsay Overmyer, agriculture/agronomy; Michala Villinger, agriculture/animal science; Samantha Shuler, equine studies; Abigail Jude, biology/health science; Kaitlin Esselman and Aubrey Malott, biology/life science. Ashley Williams, accounting; Jessica Rice, business administration; Rachel Routzong, economics (AEP); Hannah Fetters, chemistry; Kimberly Reuss, education/early childhood; Brian Whitten, education/middle childhood; Kaitlin Brewer, education/adolescent-young adult; Colleen Rueppel, educational studies; Tiffany Barr, art; Mikayla Conrad, communication arts; Ashley Fox, English; Cody Matthews, history; John Parrett, religion and philosophy; Michael Disney, Spanish. Anthony Shuler, criminal justice; Lydia Wolcott, social and political studies; Elizabeth Biggane, social work; Eric Balash, athletic training; Jacob Griffith, sport management/administration; Tricia Steffen, sport management/wellness; and Andreas Koyfis, recipient of the Dr. Elizabeth S. Kinsig Award for highest grade point average in sport management. JaCole Tabor and Elyse Spraul each received a $1500 Nedra Gordon Scholarship in recognition of their social awareness and significant involvement in at least one social issue-oriented group.
