Art Department to Hold ‘Senior Thesis Art Exhibit’

Paula Jimenez: 'I have tried to embrace the best of both worlds through the best way I know: art.' Senior art major Paula Jimenez attempts to connect her Latin roots to her American life in works featured at Wilmington College’s Senior Thesis Art Exhibit running from April 29 through May 9 in Harcum Gallery. An opening reception honoring the lone artist and her exhibit, “Gathering Pieces,” is planned for April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited free of charge with refreshments being served. Normal gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jimenez said her work explores feelings, thoughts and memories through shapes, textures and materials. “The longer I stay in the United States, the fewer memories I will have of Mexico,” she said. “We all must grow and I have done so, however there is always a constant inner struggle to keep a piece of my old self.” She admitted that “change is inherently human” and she is no exception to those dynamics. “I have enjoyed experimenting with new materials and mixing media in order to express the transformation within myself that has occurred during my time as a college student,” she added. “I have tried to embrace the best of both worlds through the best way I know: art.”
