ALLIANCE, OH – Three players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Wilmington Lady Quakers fell to #24 Mount Union Saturday, 85-75, in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The Lady Quakers, who are now 0-3 on the season against ranked teams, fell to 9-6 overall, 5-3 in the OAC. WC travels to Ada 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to play another ranked team, #10 Ohio Northern.

“I thought we played a really good game, they just played a little better,” said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve.

Wilmington trailed for most of the game, but never lost contact with the Purple Raiders until late. For the first 25 minutes, the game was tied 11 times with four lead changes. A 13-6 spurt gave Mount Union its first double-figure lead with 8:40 remaining in the contest.

Mount Union freshman Jessie Baldridge was the difference in the game. The 5-10 center scored a career-high 26 points after scoring just 20 points total in her 10 appearances this season. She averaged just 8.8 minutes coming into the contest.

“We didn’t know much about her as she played on their junior varsity team early in the season,” said Scheve. “In the first half, they got the ball to her and she made some nice post moves. In the second half, she stepped out and made some shots.”

Faced with Mount Union’s pressure defense, the Lady Quakers turned the ball over 17 times – helping the Purple Raiders net 21 fast break points. However, Scheve was pleased with the play overall from his point guards.

“Haley Howard was outstanding,” said Scheve. “I thought with their pressure all game long, she handled it very well.”

Howard (Uhrichsville, OH/New Philadelphia) finished with a team-high 14 points with five rebounds and two assists. Senior Shelby Kies (Maineville, OH/Kings) added nine points and a team-high three assists.

Senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) added 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Spencer Robles (Clyde, OH/Clyde) chipped in with 11 points and four boards.
