Veite-Reiber post doubles win

Michelle Reiber teamed with Jessica Veite to post a win at No. 2 doubles.
CEDARVILLE — Wilmington College dropped an 8-1 decision to Cedarville on the Yellow Jackets’ courts in non-conference women’s tennis action Friday.
The Lady Quakers are now 0-2 for the fall season while Cedarville improves to 1-2.
Wilmington’s win was provided by the No. 2 doubles team of Jessica Veite (Loveland) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview), who defeated Joy Dice and Alison Scharold, 8-5.
“Jessica and Michelle played very well. It was a fun match to watch,” Wilmington head coach Jessie Loeffelholz said. “They not only compete on every point, but they really do a nice job of adjusting to their opponents during the match.”
In other doubles action, Jessica VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Lisa Brady (Pickerington/Pickerington North) dropped a 2-8 decision to Joy Kellogg and Brooke Johnson at the No. 1 position. At No. 3 doubles, Jennifer VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Jordan VanWinkle (Vickery/Port Clinton) lost to Jesika Rupena and Emma Rahn, 2-8.
On the singles courts, Veite dropped a 6-7 (4-7), 0-6 decision to Kellogg at No. 1. At the No. 2 position, Reiber lost to Johnson, 0-6, 1-6. Brady was topped by Dice at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 1-6. At No. 4, Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) lost to Rahn, 3-6, 2-6. Kaitlyn Lentz (Miamisburg) was defeated by Scharold, 1-6, 2-6, at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Bethany Fickle (Mt. Victory/Marion Harding) lost to Lyndsay Stine, 2-6, 2-6.
“We had a good team effort tonight,” Loeffelholz said. “Most of our players were bumped up in the lineup, and they really stepped up.”
