Wilmington College dropped a 110-79 decision to Alma College in a non-conference women’s dual meet at the W.C. Natatorium Friday night.

The loss for the Quakers comes on the heels of a grueling week of training in Florida.

“The last 10 days have been a whirlwind with traveling and training and everything else. We got back from a 20-hour bus ride a day ago. It wore some kids out and some kids really responded well to the training,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “You could tell that the training took effect because everyone is a little beat up right now. That’s exactly what we wanted. We’re getting ready to taper.”

Julie Creech (Dayton/Centerville) had a big night, touching first in the 200-meter freestyle and coming back later to win the 100 butterfly.

“Julie was outstanding,” Breen said. “To be able to achieve what she did today makes me excited for the end of the year.”

Victoria Burcham (Urbana) won the 100 backstroke, despite swimming under the weather.

“For Victoria to come out and swim as well as she did tonight speaks worlds for her preparation,” Breen said. “She had an incredible 100 backstroke.”

Kristen Deutsch (Beavercreek) powered to a win in the 100 freestyle.

Breen also singled out the performance of freshman Jenny Geers (Pickerington/Pickerington North).

“Jenny had a great meet. She had in-season best times in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.”

Wilmington will return to home water Saturday when Franklin College visits for a 1 p.m. dual.
