Connor LaVelle and the Quakers were topped by Mount Union.
Defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Mount Union blanked Wilmington College, 9-0, in men’s tennis action on the Quakers’ courts Saturday afternoon.
Wilmington is now 0-2 in OAC play, 0-3 overall. Mount Union moves to 2-0 in the conference, 5-6 for the season.
The match of the day came at No. 3 doubles, where Killian Cummings (Cincinnati/Colerain) and Josh Kincaid (Loveland/Goshen) were edged by Drew LeGendre and Marcus Suffolk, 6-8.
“I was really proud of our No. 3 team,” Wilmington head coach Brian Lawhon said. “It was good to see them compete at a high level. They played well in a match that could have easily gone our way.”
After sweeping their way through doubles play, the Purple Raiders posted wins on all six singles courts.
Charles Hirtzinger (Troy) played well before dropping a 2-6, 2-6 decision to Jeff Looker at No. 6.
“We know how good Mount Union is, but it was still good to see how some of the kids got excited with the improvement they are making,” Lawhon said. “We did a lot of good things and we competed at a high level. If we can continue to do that, we have a lot to look forward to.”
The Quakers will return to action at Heidelberg April 9.
