Watters scores with 36 seconds to lift WC

TERRE HAUTE, IN – Senior Sarah Watters (Cincinnati/Turpin) scored with 36 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Wilmington College women’s soccer team to the 1-0 victory Sunday over Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin’ Quakers improved to 2-0 for the eighth time in the last 10 years. It was the third time since 2003 that Wilmington opened the season with back-to-back shutouts.
Senior Kayla Falkenbach (Springfield/Greenon) recorded the first assist of the season. Both of Wilmington’s goals on Saturday were unassisted.
Wilmington dominated possession of the game, outshooting the host-Engineers 18-3. Twelve of the WC shots were registered in the second half, including eight in the final 15 minutes of the game. Six different players recorded shots in the final moments of the contest.
Sophomore Taylor Franklin (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) had one save in earning her first shutout of the season.
WC will have its home opener 7 p.m. Wednesday when the Wittenberg Tigers visit Charlie Gilhart Field.
