Quakers fall to Mount Union

Seniors Caitlin Yauch, Carissa Macella, Amanda Hirn and Alicia Jacquemin competed in their final home OAC dual meet.
Wilmington lost to Mount Union, 120-85, in an Ohio Athletic Conference women’s dual swimming meet at the WC Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
“The kids did swim pretty well and some of the kids really surprised me. They’ve been paying their dues all season training-wise, but it just hasn’t happened for them in a meet yet. Today, it happened for them in a meet.” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said.
One of the step-up performances was turned in by sophomore Kristen Deutsch (Beavercreek), who powered to wins in the 800-meter freestyle and 400 freestyle.
“Kristen is one of the hardest-working kids that we have ever had. She thought she wasn’t swimming as well as she should be. She lit it up today. She was amazing with lifetime-best swims in both the 800 and 400 freestyles. She just had an incredible day," Breen said.
Deutsch teamed with Hannah Anderson (West Chester/Lakota West), Lisa Fetters (Hamilton/Badin) and Rebecca Scherer (Circleville) to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Julie Creech (Dayton/Centerville) was an easy winner in the 200 butterfly.
Seniors Amanda Hirn (West Carrollton), Alicia Jacquemin (Oxford/Talawanda), Carissa Macella (Wilmington) and Caitlin Yauch (Cincinnati/Mercy) competed in their final home OAC meet for the Quakers. Their contributions to the program were not lost on their coach.
“These kids have been consistent and they have been committed,” Breen said. “I don’t know if we have ever had a class that has been this loyal to the program. Their contributions extend well beyond the water in this pool.”
