Melissa Amerman and the Quakers battled Wittenberg and Transylvania in dual meets.
SPRINGFIELD — Wilmington College dropped dual meets to Wittenberg and Transylvania in non-conference women’s swimming action Saturday afternoon.
“We saw some good competition today, which I think is ultimately good for us,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “We competed better against good teams today than we have so far this year. The kids were ready to go when we got there and started off with some great swims.”
Kristen Deutsch (Beavercreek) had a big meet, finishing third in the 500-yard freestyle before bouncing back to win the 1,000 freestyle.
“Kristen made a little mistake in the 1,000 and took it out too hard,” Breen said. “But against the same competition in the 500 she came back to pick up a nice clear victory. The work that we are doing is starting to pay off for her.”
Victoria Burcham (Urbana) continued a strong freshman season with a 2:21 effort in the 200 backstroke.
“Victoria had a really nice swim. She works hard, and it shows in her results,” Breen said. “I also thought our relays looked better today. This team is just getting better every week.”
Breen also singled out the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races turned in by Liz Miller (Lebanon).
