Jessica VanWinkle and the Quakers lost to Ohio Northern in OAC Tournament quarterfinal action.
ADA — Wilmington College closed the women’s tennis season with a 5-0 loss at Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon.
The loss ends the 8-seed Quakers’ season at 3-11. Top-seed Ohio Northern takes a 20-5 record into Friday’s semifinals.
“We came up here and competed against a very good Ohio Northern team,” Wilmington interim head coach Jessie Carmack said. “I think we played much better than we did when we lost up here in the regular season.”
The Polar Bears took control of play early, winning all three doubles matches. Wilmington’s No. 1 team of Lisa Brady (Pickerington/Pickerington North) and Jessica VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) dropped a 0-8 decision to Carly Olmstead and Michelle Thuma.
Erin Cane (Springboro) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) lost, 2-8, to Emily Mueller and Lauren Rife at the No. 2 position.
At No. 3 doubles, Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) and Jennifer VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) dropped a 1-8 decision to Christie Gales and Samantha Stulen.
Ohio Northern clinched the team win with victories at No. 1 and 6 singles.
