WC Theatre to Present the Musical 'Working'
Stephen Schwartz's Show Based on Book by Studs Terkel
November 18, 2010
From the left, Susan Dicken, Kristen Carpenter and Ian Anderson portray America at work in WC Theatre's presentation of the musical 'Working' Nov. 18, 19 and 20.
Everyday workers will articulate their hopes, dreams and fears when Wilmington College Theatre presents the musical Working Nov. 18, 19 and 20, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.
Working, which is based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, is the brainchild of Stephen Schwartz, who brought Wicked to the Broadway stage.
It explores the American workday from the Monday morning blues to the second shift blahs using the original words of some uncommon common men and women.
Everyday workers, including a parking lot attendant, corporate executive, steelworker, schoolteacher, housewife, fireman, waitress, mill worker, etc., sing and talk about their jobs, defining not only their daily round, but their hopes, dreams and fears as well.
Working was adapted from Terkel’s book by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso with songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, Susan Birkenhead, James Taylor and Stephen Schwartz.
Wynn Alexander is directing the show with Lois Hock providing set design, Timothy Larrick, musical direction, and Becky Haines, lighting design.
The cast features: Ian Anderson, Kevin Berry, Ely Bolitho, Kristen Carpenter, Susan Dicken, Kristin Finkbeiner, Christopher Hughes, Zach Hughes, Joshua Keith, Abigail Knapp, Megan McDonough, Bekah Muchmore, Amy Petzold, Tyne Powers, Bobby Renshaw, Zeke Rockwell, Quatez Scott, Morgan Smith, Fred Taylor, Stephanie Thompson, Bri Trubee, Victoria Vlcek and Kevin Wall.
Reservations are available by contacting the Theatre Box Office weekdays, between 9 a.m. and noon and 1 to 4 p.m., at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267.
